I've been looking online for some eco-friendly, compostable options for plates/cups/utensils/etc. It seems like such a huge waste to feed as many as 150 people with plates, cups, and utensils that will sit in a landfill forever & ever. I've found some options at places like Eco Products, Biodegradable Store, Greener Country, Branch Home (which is SUCH an awesome site), & World Centric. It's a little bit more pricey, yes, but not much ... and they've got a bunch of different options: varying sizes of plates, ones with compartments in them, many sizes of cold cups ... as well as many options for what the products are made of. There are PLA cold cups, made from polylactic acid which is derived from either corn grown in the US or sugarcane. There are bagasse cups, made from residual sugarcane fiber that is obtained after juice extraction. The bagasse in particular is even sturdier than your typical Chinet brand paper plates! Whee! Now to find out where to PUT all this compostable, biodegradable product when we're done with it ...

Random picture of Nate because I am incapable of making a blog post that is not accompanied by a photo! I am attempting to set up our Amazon registry (what's better than Amazon? you can get everything there!) & I am at a stand-still. There is no doubt that there's tons of stuff me & Nate WANT... but I'm getting the impression that registries are more for things you NEED. Bath towels & bedsheets & flatware & all of that. Some of that stuff is good ... I would certainly love to have a Cuisinart mixer... Nate desperately needs a new (good quality) garlic press ... etcetera. But where is the line? Is it acceptable to put things on there that you would simply LIKE to have? What if they're things I've been lusting after for months & months? Is it okay to have things that JUST Nate wants, or that JUST I want? Does everything have to be for the happy couple to share? Am I making too big of a deal out of this & I should just shut up & make the damn registry already?

My engagement ring! We picked it out together, a few days after Nate proposed, and it is beautiful. This photo doesn't really do it justice. It is, by far, the fanciest thing I've ever owned/worn - I am not much of a jewelry girl, I wear earrings sometimes but that's about it - so this is a big deal! Every female I've seen since the engagement (okay, and a couple dudes, too) have been all OMGZ WHERE'S THE RING I MUST SEE THE RING so, here you go!

Would it be so wrong to have Cylon cake toppers? I mean, any one of us COULD be a Cylon for all we know. I guess having cupcakes we won't really need cake TOPPERS but we could still have a couple little Cylons hanging out near the cupcakes. Is it bizarre that this would make me totally happy?

Bouquet

Honestly, I have no idea WHAT I'll do for my bouquet but this seems like a pretty neat option. A bouquet formed from whatever color tulle I want, all poofed into a big round puff, with ornaments stuck inside. I could do blue & green tulle with cream ornaments? Cream tulle with dull gold ornaments? Or I could go the flower route. Eep!
